Chickenfoot is a silly name for a band -- and album -- that kicks a donkey's ass six ways to Sunday and back again. Maybe that's because long before the four men who comprise Chickenfoot came together, they already filled the pages of rock history with enough individual mind-blowing chapters to boggle the mind. In November of '86, as my first solo LP "Not of this Earth" was being released on Relativity, I was already plotting to make a "real" rock'n'roll instrumental guitar record that would celebrate all the fun, depth, and spiritual elements of the instrument. I wanted it to elevate the status of the idiom itself. More importantly I needed to elevate myself out of my own musical nightmare. Something was driving me to try and compose the strongest melodies of my life, complete with original tones and groundbreaking arrangements. In the end, I had to re-invent everything about my playing, and myself.
